Day Three: Mark Fox’s Untitled, 2011
Mark Fox’s work, Untitled, shows how contemporary drawing has moved into the sculptural realm. Beginning with a found object as a base (a piano bench left in his studio by a former tenant), Fox created a sculpture by gluing layer upon colorful paper layer. Appearing solid when viewed from a distance, the fragile nature of the work is evident upon closer inspection. What one cannot see is the sheet music intentionally left in the bench as a silent homage to its former owner.
